          Configuring Windows
          ---------------------------------------------------------------

To configure Windows for use with a particular driver:

          1. If you have not yet installed Windows 3.1 on your computer,
install it by running the Setup program on Windows Disk 1.
To do this, insert the Windows Setup Disk into Drive A.
Switch to Drive A by typing:

                    a: [Enter]

And start the Setup program by typing:

                    setup [Enter]

Follow the instructions on the screen to install Windows.

          2. Go to the directory where Windows is installed. Run Setup
               again.

          3. Use the direction keys to move to the Display: line in the
System Information list. The current display type is
               highlighted. Press [Enter].

Setup provides a list of display types.

          4. Use the direction keys to scroll to "Other." Press [Enter].

Setup prompts you for the "display driver disk," the disk
containing the OEM Setup files. It displays the default
location for these files as A:\.

          5. Press the [Backspace] key to move the cursor backward. In
place of A:\, type the name of the hard disk directory
containing the OEM SETUP DISK files (for example,
               C:\OEMDISK).

          6. Select the driver you wish to use, for example "VGA 1024 NI
               640x480 256-color."

Setup returns you to the configuration menu. You are
               finished changing the Display: parameter.

          7. Change any other configuration parameters as needed. (Refer
to your Windows documentation.) Then, select "Accept the
               configuration shown above."

          8. Setup might prompt you for the "Oem Display driver disk"
or might attempt to find the VGALOGO.LGO file on drive A.
Should this occur, press the [Backspace] key to move the
cursor backward. In place of the A:\, type the name of the
hard disk directory containing the OEM SETUP DISK files
               (for example, C:\OEMDISK).

When the Setup program finishes executing, the selected driver is
installed. Microsoft Windows returns to MS-DOS when the
          configuration is complete.

          Changing Windows Video Drivers
          -----------------------------------------------------------------
After you determine that a driver operates correctly on your
system, you can select that driver by using the Windows SETUP
program from MS-DOS. You can also select a driver by using the
Windows SETUP icon from within Windows. Pick one of the
          VGA 1024 NI drivers.

When using the Windows Setup icon, you might be prompted for the
WIN.CNF file. Enter the path C:\windows\SYSTEM where "windows"
          is the Windows directory.

The Windows 3.1 SETUP program's icon lets you restart Windows
without exiting Windows. Save your data files before doing an
          automatic restart.
