          Document Conventions
          -----------------------------------------------------------------

Throughout this document, the following conventions are used to
          differentiate various types of information:

. Words enclosed in square brackets ([ ]) represent keys on
               the keyboard. For example: [Enter].

. Groups of keys are printed like this: [Ctrl+Alt+Del]. Press
and hold the keys in the order shown ([Ctrl], [Alt], and
[Del], in this example). Then, release the keys.

. Words enclosed in angle brackets (<>) are placeholders for
               variable information.

. Filenames, directory names, command names, and command
switches are shown in all uppercase. For example, C:\WP and
WDPVGA1A.WPD. You can enter such information in any mixture
               of upper- and lowercase characters.

          HVGA1280.DRV 1280x1024 16 1M VRAM

The 256-color palettes for the gamma and non-gamma drivers are
defined differently. The gamma drivers match the color scheme
used by the 16-color drivers. The non-gamma drivers use true
colors and may enhance the display on very high quality monitors.
We recommend using the gamma drivers.

          DRIVER INSTALLATION FOR WINDOWS
          -----------------------------------------------------------------
Follow the instructions in this section to install the video
          drivers for Windows.

          Windows Version 3.0 Drivers
          -----------------------------------------------------------------

Check the version number of Windows before beginning the driver
          installation.

The Windows Drivers Diskette is originally configured to install
Windows 3.1 drivers. If you are running Windows 3.0. you must run
the CONV30 utility to convert the drivers to Windows 3.0 format.

Use the MS-DOS DISKCOPY command to make a backup copy of the
diskette. Then, insert the backup diskette into a diskette drive
          and type:

          <drive>:

to change to the drive containing the backup diskette. Then,
          type:

               CONV30

to convert the 3.1 drivers to 3.0 format. A CONV31 utility is
also included on the diskette. Run this utility if you later
upgrade to Windows 3.1. You will need to convert the drivers back
          to Windows 3.1 format.

Review the installation notes before beginning the driver
          installation.

          Driver Installation Notes for Windows
          -----------------------------------------------------------------
. Install Microsoft Windows before you install the video
               drivers.

Refer to your computer or video adapter documentation and
your monitor documentation for a list of the video modes and
resolutions supported for your video configuration.

. Use the video drivers listed in the "Windows Drivers
Diskette" section of this guide instead of those provided
with Windows. The Windows drivers will run correctly, but
they may run slower and do not take full advantage of the
hardware features of your video hardware.

VGA 1024 NI Plus Software Drivers-5

. Select drivers according to your application and monitor
support. Also consider your needs for color and operation
speed. For example, those drivers which support more colors
will run more slowly. If speed is sometimes more important
than the variety of colors available, consider installing
more than one driver. You can then switch drivers to suit
               the needs of different applications.

          Installing a Windows Video Driver
          -----------------------------------------------------------------
Follow these instructions to install the Windows VGA drivers.

          1. Install Windows 3.0 or 3.1 with the standard VGA driver. Run
Windows, and check that Windows starts without any error
               conditions. Then, exit Windows.

          2. If you are using Windows 3.0, make a backup of the Windows
Drivers Diskette, using the MS-DOS DISKCOPY command. Place
the backup into Drive A and type:

                    conv30

               at the A> prompt.

Caution: Making a backup is important because the CONV
command alters the contents of the diskette.

          3. Change to the Windows directory.

          4. Type:

                    setup

               and press [Enter]

          5. Use the direction keys to highlight "Display," and press
               [Enter].

          6. Use the direction keys to highlight "Other," and press
               [Enter].

          7. When prompted for the display drivers diskette, insert the
Windows Drivers Diskette into Drive A and press [Enter]
A list of available drivers is displayed.

VGA 1024 NI Plus Software Drivers-6

          8. Select a driver compatible with your monitor type, and press
               [Enter].
. Refer to your computer or video adapter documentation
and your monitor documentation for information about
monitor type requirements for video modes.

. Drivers that require 1M of video memory are identified
by the notation 1M. The 1M drivers provide faster
                    operation.

. The 256-color palettes for the gamma and non-gamma
drivers are defined differently. The gamma drivers
match the color scheme used by the 16-color drivers.
The non-gamma drivers use true colors and may enhance
the display on very high quality drivers. We recommend
                    using the gamma drivers.

          9. Follow the prompts on the screen for inserting the Windows
diskettes and the Windows Drivers Diskette. When finished,
the SETUP program returns to MS-DOS.

          10. Run Windows. Windows will run in the new video mode and
display the resolution of the driver you selected. Verify
               that the driver operates correctly.

If your Windows screen is not readable after installing the video
driver, exit Windows. Then, rerun the Windows SETUP program from
MS-DOS, and select a lower resolution.

To exit Windows, press [Ctrl+Alt+Del] to restart the computer.

          Changing Windows Video Drivers
          -----------------------------------------------------------------
After you determine that a driver operates correctly on your
system, you can select that driver by using the Windows SETUP
program from MS-DOS. Pick one of the VGA 1024 NI Plus drivers.

If you are running Windows 3.1, you can also select a driver by
using the Windows SETUP icon from within Windows. Pick one of the
VGA 1024 NI Plus drivers. The Windows SETUP program prompts you
for the OEM display driver disk if this diskette is not already
in Drive A. At the prompt, insert the Windows Drivers Diskette
and press [Enter]. After copying begins, Windows SETUP might
again prompt for this diskette as it searches for the WIN.CNF
          file. Enter the path:
               <drive>\windows\system
where <drive> is the letter of the drive on which you installed
          Windows.

The Windows 3.1 SETUP program's icon lets you restart Windows
without exiting Windows. Save your data files before doing an
          automatic restart.
