GRiD has recently been contacted by Ron Dews of Electrospace with a request for information concerning the LAN system provided by GRiD for use on the wide body Air Force 1. Electrospace has been tasked to perform a security analysis of the LAN system, under DCA contract DCA100-87-C-0067. The request for this security analysis came to DCA from the Aeronautical Systems Division of the Air Force Systems Command, which has been charged with performing a risk analysis of the LAN system. The Electrospace personnel performing the security analysis are Ron Dews and Kevin Carlton. The analysis is to be performed in accordance with DIAM 50-4 and the DOD "rainbow" specifications, contained in the NCSC Orange Book and it's related volumes. They are requesting information concerning those facets of GRiDServer and the LAN system delivered to BMAC which affect their security and compliance with the above mentioned documents. GRiD requests permission from Boeing to hold written and verbal discussions with Electrospace personnel concerning those aspects of the LAN system relevant to the security analysis Electrospace is performing for DCA. Relevant aspects are expected to include access control, administrative controls, data segregation, audit trails, external data flows, error recovery, and storage control.
