þa‹RþwQþ m^9þhý oPþ nSystem-wide To: John Ellenby From: Bob Wulff Subject: Release of "-07" boot eproms Date: May 17, 1984 cc: Carol Hankins, Dave Paulsen, Monty Boyer, Jack Aiello, Ken Dulaney, Paul Hammel, Larry Gravelle, Gary Brownen, Hamid Kohanfars, Bob McFeeters, Kevin O'Neill, Dave Wurster We finally have the first release of the "-07" boot eproms. Sorry they have taken so long. Please remember that this is a test version and will probably not be the final version. The new proms have the following part numbers: EVEN 300400-07 ODD 300401-07 This part number can be found at location 0fe2d:0 in the eproms. We have spent a lot of time trying to minimize the different versions of eproms we needed to support. To achieve this goal, this new version is bubble size and ram size independent. It will work on the following machines: 1121 Compass 256k ram 384k bubble rom capability 1129 Compass 512k ram 384k bubble rom capability 1107 Compass 512k ram 384k bubble rom capability It will also work on the 1705 when that product starts to use a split board (roms) architecture. This version has the following new features: o Rom driver to support booting and executing from roms o Bubble size independent bubble driver o Works with either 64k bit rams or 256k bit rams o New smaller disk driver (not new gpib driver) o Does not try to boot off gpib address 3 (this was never used) o Configuration table which indicates screen parameters and whether the product supports roms or not ^UNThis version does not support a 128k ram Compass, and will not work very well on Midway.^UN There are two known bugs which will soon be fixed in the "-08" version of boot eproms: o Two 64k byte eproms acting as one 128k rom will not work o The interface to obtain configuration table information will change slightly The map of these eproms is attached on the following pages.
